artists in my business. One of those artists is my friend Cheryl at Serendipity Hill.
For years Cheryl and I worked together. Her with crazy, creative ideas
and me helping her ideas come to life by supplying her with the letters,
shapes and odd bits that challenged me often! She made some amazing
products that she successfully sold for a number of years.

Many of you
will remember her name plaques as they were her top item.

Cheryl has made some big changes in her life and business over the past
year or so - you can read about that on her page and she no longer
makes the name signs that everyone grew to know and love but she is
still creating and you must check out her art. It's amazing! Follow
her! Follow her page, follow her Instagram, follow her shop. You will
not be disappointed!

You may see some signs similar to ones that
Cheryl did popping up in my feed now. Have no fear, I am not stealing
Cheryl's ideas! We have had some great discussions and for now if you
are looking for a sign similar to what Cheryl was making I can help you
out. It won't be the same. We each have our own unique artistic touches.
That's what you want from true, hand crafted pieces. Now go check out her art!
Oliver LOVES tigers! Everything he has in his room is tiger related so naturally a tiger is what had to be done for his shaped monogram!

This tiger is a big guy and measures at about 2 feet tall by almost 3 feet wide! I'm having a lot of fun with these wooden shaped monogram names! Can't wait to see what else will be next!
These wooden shaped monograms have been up there in this brain of mine for quite some time but idea to production is tough when you just need to get orders done! Fortunately I have a friend who was after some cool new decor for her kids rooms and I was able to use the sports and activities they are both into to start off the first of what is sure to be a new popular item!

Her son is a ski racer and spends his winters on the slopes so it was fun to create a vintage ski themed monogram for him. The shaped monograms are sized the same as our Initial Name Letters so the shape is 24" in height with the name made in proportion to the shape. (Widths vary depending on the shape and name length) These are a nice, large centerpiece for any room. They would also be awesome with a family name as well!

Her daughter is a dancer! This one was fun as I added real ribbon for
the entire thing to hang from and added some metallic paint for a satiny
sheen.

I have some more in the works and always welcome new ideas so stay tuned!

As many of you may remember, last year I did a similar raffle because my husband and I were raising money for the Canadian Diabetes Association so we could go to Iceland in August of 2015. What you don't know is that we didn't make it on that trip last year. Almost a year this April my mom, who was going to watch our children for us while we were away, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At that time we decided it would be best to postpone the trip for a number of obvious reasons. The "unknown" being a big one. We had been well on our way with the fundraising but luckily Team Diabetes allows you to save the money you've raised and transfer it to another race at a different time when the circumstances are as ours were.

I'm happy to say that my mom is still with us and continues to fight her battle every day. (Insert #cancersucks hashtag here.) Postponing the trip has allowed us to get all our ducks in a row so to speak and now we're gearing up to try again this August! My sister will be coming to watch our kids and Iceland bound we shall be! But we still have money to raise!

We have a few fundraising events planned but this raffle was so successful last year I thought I'd give it a go again. So what is it exactly? What can you win? Only $500 of the best handmade, custom items out there of course!

Here's how it works:
You click here and purchase your raffle tickets: RAFFLE TICKETS!!
(Tickets are $10 each or 5 for $40)

We will randomly draw for a winner on April 30th, 2016. We will contact the winner via email and send them a gift certificate. Winner shops our store online for whatever their little heart desires! Easy!

Of course, you can also make a direct donation as well. I won't turn you away! Here's the link to my very own personal page: Kristina's Page
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06994066006305625768noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6731320896789470112.post-22935153716731204402016-03-01T13:10:00.002-08:002016-03-01T13:11:55.137-08:00HAPPY!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Here in Alberta we've had a very mild, not-typical winter and it's felt like spring for all of February. Blue skies, warmer weather and sunshine inspired these new signs I created today! Measuring 21" x 12" and done in a rustic, barnboard style they're the perfect addition to brighten any room! I currently have these two in stock in my Etsy shop (where I put all the in stock stuff by the way!) so hurry over and grab one up!
Custom orders are always welcome as well!
I hope you're having a HAPPY day too!
I always think people wouldn't be shopping so soon after Christmas but it always has been and remains as our busiest time period. Maybe because with the holidays behind us and a new year ahead a lot of us feel the need to purge, organize, finish projects and plan for what's ahead. Whatever the reason I find myself painting, painting, painting!

I thought I would take this opportunity to show off a few of the new designs that I've recently completed as often they hit the website without much showing off!

Believe it or not this is the very first strictly football themed anything I've done! I do sports all the time but never only football. I'm not sure how that has happened in an entire decade but perhaps now that people see this one I'll be doing more!

I will also have many new products coming up soon and I can't wait to show them off! In the meantime - Happy New Year!

Making a
difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes is a priority
for us. Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in Canada. Currently,
more than nine million Canadians, or one in four, are living with
diabetes or prediabetes - a number expected to rise to one in three by
2020. Funds that I raise as a member of Team Diabetes will be used for
diabetes research, education, services and advocacy on behalf of
those living with the disease.

To help us raise money and reach
our goal we have put together a pretty awesome prize basket to raffle
off to one lucky winner! Tickets are $10 each or 5 for $40 and you can
purchase them HERE. The winner will be drawn on April 1, 2015 and
contacted via email.

If you wish to donate to our team directly you can do so here:
Bouncing Off The Walls Team Diabetes Donation Page

Thank you for your support!

The idea hit me on Saturday. I had the first one done on Wednesday! What can I say? When I get excited about a great idea I just have to DO IT! I think you'll love this one too.

They were added to the website today. Rustic barn board look wall signs. Although my first thought was for kids rooms with a child's name on them I had friends that quickly jumped all over the family name sign for their homes. In a matter of (literally) minutes they were waving hands in the air saying "Pick me! Pick me!" for samples. So with their influence for names and colours the first four samples were born this week. I'm really happy with the results and I can't wait to do more. So many options with this one.

The finer details? These
barnboard look name signs are made from one solid piece of wood
that is designed to look like rustic barnboard. The name is cut
separately in the font of your choice and attached on top. There are three sizes
to choose from depending on the name length, plenty of font options and whatever colours your little heart desires!

(This is my daughter Devyn. More than happy to model with this letter to show it's size she expects to become famous for having her picture on the internet.)

We artists are a funny bunch. For a lot of us it takes us years to actually admit that we even ARE artists. It's funny looking back. I've always been good at art. Always. My entire life people would say, "You're an artist!" and I'd feel uncomfortable with that title because I just didn't think I was good enough to deserve it. So I'd reply with, "Well, I can draw pretty good."

Years into a life where I've made my art my actual profession I can finally admit that yes, I am indeed an artist and a professional one at that. But man, I am hard on myself. We sure are our own worst critics. I'm constantly picking my own work apart, figuring out what I would do differently the next time and looking for ways to improve. The worst is looking at other artist's work. EVERYONE seems better than me!

So I have to admit that I got a kick out of Katerina Mertikas when we first started chatting. Here was this FAMOUS, PROFESSIONAL, AWARD-WINNING artist and she was telling me how great MY art was! What?!?! I LOVE her stuff. I did not feel worthy to be in the company of such greatness! SHE is great. Me? Meh, I'm ok I guess.....

We chatted back and forth quite a bit. We wanted to make sure we could created a product that everyone would love and after a few days I believe we accomplished what we set out to do. Actually, I didn't do much. All I did was send her some BIG letters (30 inches high these babies stand!) and she worked her magic! It has to be magic. I'm not sure how else to explain their beauty!

We started with three designs and this is what they are. Aren't they beautiful? Pictures do not do them justice. They are so vivid, so bold. As a color-lover I can't stop staring at them!
"Can you do a Winnie The Pooh theme? "My son really likes Pokemon. Can you do Pokemon letters?"
These
are questions I get asked A LOT. My answer is always no. No, I will not
paint Winnie the Pooh, Pokemon, Superman or even your favorite NHL
logo. Why? I'll give you some great reasons why I won't paint these or
any other COPYRIGHTED characters.

First and foremost is the big
one that I already mentioned - If it's copyrighted by another person or
company I will not paint it. Period. Aside from the fact that I value my
business enough that I don't wish it to be shut down by the high and
mighty powers that rule our children these days, all of these characters
were created by another artist. Another artist! As an artist I don't
want people to copy my work so why would I do it to someone else? This
also includes exact matches of bedding. As pretty as bedding is - fabric
is also created by an artist and copyrighted.

When I tell
people that I don't do copyright artwork I often have them say, "but I
see other people doing it." Yes, other people do. I am not them. I
cannot speak for them to say why they do it. I will not tell them to
stop and I will not report them to shut them down. I would rather focus
my energy on bettering my own business and working hard at creating
unique products that are not the same as what you can find everywhere.

Being
creative is the fun part. I love the challenge of creating my own
designs and just letting the paint and brush guide me. Often times I'm
making up the picture or design as I go. It's how I work best. It's why
my products are different than any others you see out there. To copy
someone else's work is to crush my creative flow. Trust me. It shuts
down the fun, creative side of my brain and makes me have to work the
other part. The part that does math and all the other boring stuff that
makes me stress. No thank you! If you want an original, unique piece of
work that has my heart and soul in it then let me create! You're hiring
an artist not just a letter painter.

Here's another big reason: If you're the mother of any kid over two you get this. Kids grow fast and they change their minds constantly! That character that rules their world today? Forgotten as soon as the next big movie or trend comes out. My artwork isn't cheap. It's meant to last and withstand room makeovers. If we paint today's character on there how happy will you be when tomorrow they pronounce someone different as their new fav? Choose something that will stand the test of time and the changing of bedding.

Bedding. We all did it. It's our first pregnancy and we're sucked in by all the SO CUTE bedding for babies out there. We have time. Lots of time. Time to shop, time to plan the room, time to create the perfect nursery for our new bundle of joy to come home to.

Fast forward a couple of years and baby number two is on the way. That time thing? Haha. Who has that anymore? Baby one has to change rooms so baby two can move into the nursery. Now baby one needs toddler bedding. But the letters! The letters match the baby bedding that will now be used for baby two. Well that was a lot of money for letters that don't match anything now!

So what to do? You have a theme picked out. Gorgeous bedding. You want
the letters to match. I dislike the word match. Let's coordinate. Pull a
colour out of the bedding and go with solid letters. Solid letters will
last through any room change. They will always go. They will withstand
the stages your child goes through as they grow.

You REALLY love
your bedding and you want the letters to match. I get that, but let's
coordinate. I can use some of the colours in the bedding and we can
create something that will coordinate and still work even if the bedding
changes down the road.

Here's some great examples of letters I
have created for people that coordinate with their room or theme WITHOUT copying.
Hopefully this will inspire you, too.
Initial Name Letters for Boys!Since we debuted our Initial Name Letters a few months back they have been our new best seller. We are having so much fun coming up with new designs and colour combinations but one thing that I've been thinking about is that so far all the designs have been very feminine. Although beautiful, the damasks and rustic pinks have not been very appealing for a more masculine room.

So, I'd like to introduce a new font that I think will be perfect for all those boy's rooms out there! Here's our first one, hot off the presses! Let me know what you think of it!
Customizable to just about anything I've painted hundreds over the years to match pretty much any room or theme requested. These days a new trend is slowly showing up. People are passing over the themed rooms in favor of rooms that will last longer than the baby years. Rustic, vintage, shabby chic, "not babyish" and classic. All words that are showing up more and more in emails I exchange with my customers. People want a softer, more grown up look to the items they're choosing to surround their babies with.

That's why when the requests for Ruler Style growth charts started coming in we listened! I've had a lot of fun designing some shaped growth charts lately. Instead of the typical "stick" style these ones are shaped and have 3D elements to them making them such a great art piece that adds design and function to a child's room! Check out some of the new designs below. Next up is going to be a snowboard!

The problem with big ideas around here is implementing them. Soooo many ideas, not enough time! Except, I LOVED this idea. I loved it a lot. I loved it enough to get it done and show you because I think you will all love it too.

I'll be honest. There are a select few people in my life that have had a peek at this new, wonderful idea and THEY all LOVED it as well.

I know, I know.....get to it already!

As you know, the last item we introduced was the Wooden Monogram Letters. Monograms are popular. I started thinking of ways to make the monogram idea a little more interesting. Why just do the same monograms as everyone else? Then the idea came to me and here it is for all to see.

I struggled with what to call them so for now they're just Initial Name Letters. Kind or boring but I guess, that's what they are after all.

These are BIG. Not everyone-is-talking-about-them big, although I hope that's the case soon, but big as in large. We cut a large, 24" high letter out of 1/2" thick Baltic Birch (no MDF here!) in the classic, Times New Roman Font. This letter can be finished in a variety of finishes from solid colour to rustic to a shabby chic damask. More finishes will be available in the future. THEN we cut the name 10" high in a gorgeous, cursive font and attached it to the larger letter. Are they fantastic or what?

The possibilities are endless! My sneak peekers have all been raving about family names. Last names done instead of a child's name and then the established year added. What a great wedding gift for a new couple or Christmas or anniversary gift for someone who's been married for years!
I've had enough requests for them and after realizing that they're hard to come by here in Canada I decided it's probably high time to develop a line of Monogram Wooden letters. I carefully went through pages and pages of font styles and picked three that I thought were gorgeous, worked well for decor and were different from others out there.

Monogram Wooden Letters are all the
rage! Big and bold they sure make a statement. Fantastic for weddings,
family photo walls and nurseries they are classic and will give you the
longevity you look for when shopping for home decor. These wooden
monogram letters will be sure to last through the years and grow with
your child regardless of room theme changes!

At this time we're offering them in four different finishes: Solid colours, Dazzling Metallics, Glitter and Unpainted for the Do-It-Yourselfers. Soon we will be adding rustic, shabby chic and two-colour monograms so stay tuned and make sure you follow our Facebook page for updates!

Each
monogram has one large letter that is 28" high in a fancy font of your
choice. The smaller letters are in the classic Times New Roman font
and are 8" in height. Cut from 1/2" thick Baltic Birch when you
purchase our wooden letters you are getting top quality. No MDF here!
Every letter is painstakingly hand sanded, hand painted and finished
with a protective spray.

As the Monograms are a larger item we
found the best way to hang them is with two-sided tape. This gives a
nice, flush mounting with the wall and provides a sturdy connection to
assure nothing will fall off. If you wish to have hooks instead you can
choose so in the options when purchasing your piece of art.

You can order yours here!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06994066006305625768noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6731320896789470112.post-50668717725635336172013-08-10T09:09:00.004-07:002013-08-10T09:36:22.503-07:002 By 2 Rebuild The ZooIn June 2013 the Calgary Zoo that we love and enjoy as a family was devastated by flooding. The Zoo's 32-acre island was overtaken by the mighty Bow River destroying the buildings and grounds.
Although the Northern parts of the zoo are now reopened it will take
years and the help of the community to restore the zoo completely. The
Calgary Zoo is a place that is close to our family's hearts. As zoo
members we visit on a very regular basis and we are heartbroken to see the
destruction from the flooding. This summer we have really felt the loss as it is usually when we visit the most. With the kids off school going stir-crazy it is always a good way to do away with the "I'm booored!" that is heard all too often.

We have just recently been working on prints of some of our most popular work so that we can offer items that are in stock. We constantly have people after last-minute gift ideas and usually we are unable to give in to those requests because everything is hand painted as the orders come in. That will be changing in the coming months as we introduce a line of door signs, wall decor and growth charts that are prints of my original artwork. These items will be IN STOCK and ready to go and yes, we can still customize every item!

Even though we aren't quite ready to unveil our line of prints we felt this cause was too important to wait so, to you we introduce the very first print item - the Peek-A-Boo Monkey Wooden Plaque. These Peek-a-Boo Monkey wooden plaques are our way of helping out. From now until December 31st, 2013 we will donate $10 from the sale of every monkey plaque to the Calgary Zoo's 2 by 2 Rebuild the Zoo campaign.

These
plaques are 8x8 prints on 1/2" thick Baltic Birch wood. They
can be customized with a name or phrase of your choice. Unlike other
items in our store, these plaques will be in stock and ready to go. With
four colours to choose from we're sure we have just the right one for
your little monkey!

At this time (August 9, 2013) we will start by taking Pre-Orders as we await the shipment of our reproductions. Once the shipment arrives in a couple of weeks we will carry these in stock indefinitely.

What a great Christmas gift idea!
Dazzling Metallic Wall LettersWhen my paint supplier sent me some samples last month I fell in love with the metallic paints. If you meet me in real life you will see that I have no problems chatting with you and, in fact, could probably stand to talk a little less and listen more. However, there is one thing I AM a little shy about and that's being on camera! I know you can all relate. We all dislike the sound of our own voices and we all pick ourselves apart in photos so it's only natural that when the two are combined we get a little queasy at the thought of sharing it for the world to see. Or at least I feel queasy about it. BUT! I love challenges. I love forcing myself to step out of my comfort zone and try things that make me feel uncomfortable.

Video blogging, or Vlogging as it's known, is one of those things. So I did it. Today. Completely unrehearsed and spur-of-the-moment. Like, I didn't even know I was going to do it ten minutes before I did. And here it is. For all the world to see. *GULP!*
I don't have the patience or the time. Then a friend put me on to this dresser that someone was selling on Kijiji.

We don't have a proper T.V. stand/media center. The one we have was my husband's from when he lived by himself and with a crawling, exploring baby it's been an absolute accident waiting to happen. For some reason she is drawn to it like a magnet and is sporting lots of bruises to show for it. It has to go!

So, when I saw the dresser I thought this would be the perfect solution!
Last year, I redid an old dresser and night stand from the 70's for my daughter's room and they turned out awesome. I didn't have the patience or time then, either but I used spray paints and literally had them done in about a two hour period. Here's what they look like. Nice, right?
So, I thought, I'll take this dresser, do the same thing with different colours and be done with it. I wanted to do an off-white with some distressing. Easy, right? WRONG!

I don't know what is up with this thing but it is not going well! I spray painted it and did three coats. Three coats and it had a "crackled" look that I didn't love so much. Like the paint is sticking to some areas, but not others. Plus, it comes off if scraped hard which just won't do with three crazy kids running around.
So, I decide I need to sand it better. I go out and buy the paint stripping gel and take off all the paint I just put on. Most disgusting, messy job ever. Picture curdled milk mixed with baby spit up. Piles of it. Gross.

Then I sand. I sand and sand and sand and get it all down to it's natural wood and cleaned up all nice.
This time I try a spray paint with primer in it. Same result. On the raw wood I get the same result! It's like this wood is very porous where the grain is and the paint just won't stick there.

So, I decide it needs a melamine paint that can be brushed on instead. We'd done my daughter's doll house that we made in melamine and it turned out wonderful. Turns out no one sells it anymore as it's illegal in Canada since September of last year. Ok. I had no idea! So, the guy sells me some cabinet and furniture paint that he says is awesome and the closest thing but water based still. "Do I want it tinted?" he asks. At this point I just want this done. "Just give me the white, we'll do white now." Ok.
I get home. I sand some more. Want to make sure this baby is ready for paint. I pull out my brush, I put some on. SAME RESULT!! It still has a "crackled" look about it. You know the one I mean. You can buy the crackle paint to get the look on purpose. Here's a photo:

I've now put in many more hours than anticipated. Hours I don't have. The great deal I got on the dresser isn't so great now when you include all the supplies I've bought. So, I keep at it. I've now painted a coat of white on everything. It will sit over night and tomorrow I'll go out there and put on a second coat of white. If it still has the crackled look, well, we'll call it antiqued. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. My only thought is that perhaps the original stain on this dresser was oil-based and because the wood is so porous there's still lots of the oil finish in there that's not liking my water-based paints very well. I have no other guesses. My back hurts, my hands and wrists hurt. I'm done.
On a good note, I decided to keep the original hardware and just paint them and THEY turned out amazing! I'll let you know how the rest goes after I drag myself out to the garage tomorrow.....Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06994066006305625768noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6731320896789470112.post-6706082419424755832013-01-22T13:20:00.000-08:002013-01-22T13:29:22.869-08:00Vrooom!Alphabet Packages are a big seller for us and we're always getting requests for different idea for them. We also recognize that a lot of you are building your own alphabets by collecting letters from various sources. We often get requests to purchase just the "button O" or the "lighthouse from the Nautical Alphabet Package." Well, we're proud to say that now you can purchase these Alphabet Elements right off of our website! Check them out! Most would make awesome wall decor, too if you don't want to put them in an alphabet!

It was a LONG drawn out process mainly because I'm so busy that it's tough to find the time to do things around my own house, but I got it done and I'm still very happy with how everything turned out.

This past May we had baby number three. This meant we had to do some room shuffling. I had never planned on moving either of my older kids out of their rooms but our newest addition was a surprise so something had to be done to fit the baby into the mix. We never find out the sex of our babies beforehand so I had to make some bedroom decisions not knowing if we were having another boy or another girl.

I knew one thing though. After all my hard work on Devyn's room there was NO WAY I was moving her out of it! Many people suggested we put the baby in to share a room with whichever sibling it shared a gender with but the rooms are small. Really small. We had a hard enough time trying to fit all their stuff in as it was. Plus, with the 4 year age gap between middle child and youngest we knew there were all kinds of little toys that would have to be kept away from baby.

So, my son, Reid, moved downstairs to the spare room. He was and still is quite happy with this decision as it's the biggest room in the house!

This left his room for the baby. All done in blues with a mural I painted for Reid still on the wall. I figured if the baby was a boy it would be perfect; if it was a girl there would need to be some changes! In May our second daughter, Lachlyn, joined our family. I will admit, I was secretly happy to get to do another room make over and girl's rooms are WAY more fun to do than boy's rooms!

I'm just in the planning stages now. She is only 6 months old after all. She doesn't care what her room looks like. If my track record remains strong she'll be at least 4 before I get it all done!

Here is the room right now. It's not much of anything! A place for her to sleep and us to store extra stuff that we have no place for at the moment!

(Thank you iPhone for my new Panorama abilities on my camera!)

I don't have much planned yet except perhaps the colour palette. As with Devyn's room I found a piece or artwork to inspire me and I'll take it from there. I came across this print from Children Inspire Design and fell in love with it! I love the words, the colours and the style.

So with that picture in mind I started to plan. Below is the colour palette I've come up with. Roughly. I'm open for variations of it and other colours added in. The purple will be the main wall colour and I plan on covering the mural with the same paintable, textured wall paper I used to cover the mural in Devyn's room. It was such a huge success for us that there was no hesitation on wanting to do it again!

So here's where I need your help! I've started a Pinterest board for Lachlyn's room. A place to start gathering ideas and products. I've only just started to put it together so I'd love your help in contributing to the board if you see things that you think would go well with what I've got so far. Let me know your email address and I'll invite you to be able to pin to the board as well. (Sure wish Pinterest would let you make public boards so you didn't have to go the invite route!)

I'm going for earthy, natural type things. I went really girlie in Devyn's room. This time I want something a little more toned down! I'm also not afraid of colour so don't be afraid! The furniture is currently black with a distressed finish but it likely won't stay the same past toddler age so it doesn't need to play a huge roll in the design.

Let's see if I can get this room going before little Miss Lachlyn is four!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06994066006305625768noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6731320896789470112.post-6405618939757837742012-11-27T11:01:00.000-08:002012-11-27T11:01:06.488-08:00ABC's Get Creative! One of the top selling products we do here at Bouncing Off The Walls is Unpainted Alphabet packages. A trend that started a few years back, alphabet walls are still going strong and offer not only a fantastic conversation piece to a room but an educational one as well. Over the past while, and when we get the time, we add new alphabet packages to try and suit all tastes. I still have a few up in the old noggin' that I will get out there for the public to see some day soon!

However, no matter how creative I think I can get with them, my customers are continually amazing me with what THEY come up with. There is nothing I like more than getting emails full of pictures from excited customers showing off what they have created with their unfinished letters. The most recent one was extremely impressive and well thought out. Take a look!

Allison bought the A to Z Alphabet Package and had me paint the button O for her. The rest she took care of herself. The letters were for her little boy's toy room and she wanted something masculine, but fun. She used paints, scrapbook paper and other items to create an alphabet that is not only eye-catching but interactive! With texture and chalkboard paint one can only assume that this alphabet will be touched. How can you not? So, she hung all the letters with two-sided mounting tape to ensure they would stay put!

The C is fuzzy, made with furry yarn! Love it! Also love the D with the burlap behind it!

I'm also digging the N done with chalk on chalkboard paint. The S is very touchable and done all in twine (her son's favorite letter!)

The X is also covered entirely with burlap and my personal favorite? The & is done with an old, plaid shirt that her son loved but outgrew. How cool is that? Great job, Allison! Thanks for sharing the photos. It's always great to see all the different directions people can take the same alphabets!

With Christmas just a little over a month away (yikes!) let's think about putting some of our shopping dollars back into our own communities by buying from businesses that are right here, under our noses! You may be surprised to know just how many are out there and what great, unique items you may be able to find.

I'm going to highlight a couple of my favorite shops located in a variety of places in Canada and the U.S over the next couple of weeks. Check them out and see what they have to offer. Maybe that last minute gift you couldn't find anywhere else!

Let's start with cards. Do you still send them? I have noticed over the years a decline in the number cards that arrive but let's be honest - getting something in the mail that isn't a bill is nice, right? Lindy from Crafted By Lindy who is located right here in Alberta makes some fabulous cute cards. I've purchased from Lindy several times and I'm a big fan of her simple designs and bold colours. Check out her Christmas line! She also does gift tags as well so take advantage and get those while you're in her shop and know that you're supporting a mom of three while you do!

Another absolute favorite shop of mine is located in New York. Nicole from Nicole's Treats makes the best, um.....EVERYTHING! Seriously. I have a hard time even looking at the pictures in her store because I want it all. I have purchased from Nicole more than once for myself and for giving and have been blown away by her product. Even the things I thought I wouldn't like I did! I highly recommend getting one of her gift boxes to give or to divide up and use as stocking stuffers. Or, if you're like me....the treats may not make it to the stockings..... I do recommend getting your order in early with her though as she does get crazy busy this time of year!

And on that note I must go get some chocolate.....Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06994066006305625768noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6731320896789470112.post-85148165050990459002012-10-09T13:32:00.000-07:002012-10-09T13:32:36.766-07:00New!
